Ranch Sin Nombre
The clients desired to build a ranch house on their large ranch west of Houston. They have owned the ranch for 20 years, spending weekends there with family and friends. The house was designed for the comfort of the immediate family and for entertaining large groups.
The compound is comprised of three elements – the main house, the guest wing, and the pavilion. These elements wrap to form a U around a large swimming pool, fire pit, and fireplace with generous terraces.
The main house is designed for the comfort of the immediate family with three bedrooms and a media room. The Great Room is positioned between two massive stone gable walls with Hopes window walls on both sides to open to views of a lake and the pool court. The Guest wing is comprised of three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. These are designed to provide guests with the comforts of a resort hotel. The end bedroom is a bunkroom and game room. The pavilion covers outdoor seating and dining overlooking the pool, an outdoor kitchen with pizza oven, and an indoor support kitchen. A pool bath and storage rooms also are incorporated into the pavilion.
Exterior materials include limestone, exposed wood rafters and beams, galvalume metal roofing, flagstone paving. Interior materials include reclaimed wood ceilings, limestone walls, reclaimed oak counters and stained concrete floors. The HVAC system includes a Water Furnace geothermal heat pump that utilizes the adjacent lake for heat exchange.
